About The Staff Member

Akpe M. Eddy-Doh is an Entomologist with expertise in Integrated Pest Management strategies, insect systematics and physiology, Insect Taxonomy and Biotechnology among others. She holds an MPhil. In Entomology from the University of Ghana, Legon and a BSc. In Entomology and Wildlife from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. She served as a Research Assistant during her National Service at the Parasitology Department of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), University of Ghana, in 2009/2010. After her MPhil in 2012 she continued as a voluntary staff with the NMIMR where she joined teams as field and Laboratory assistant on various projects. Akpe M. Eddy-Doh joined the CSIR- Oil Palm Research Institute in 2016 and won her first grant from the CSIR Competitive Research Grant Scheme in 2017 to conduct research into Insect pollinators of oil palm and identify challenges to their effectiveness. Over this period, she has worked on various research including identifing some challenges impeding the effectiveness of the pollinators and working on solutions, isolating and identifying some botanicals against the oil palm leaf miner, identifying entomopathogens for the management of some pests of coconut and oil palm. Most of her work has focused on exploiting various technologies for an IPM strategy for sustainable oil palm and coconut production. She has also been involved in various consultancies and training sections for farmers and other stakeholders of the oil palm industry. She won the Nuffic Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) scholarship in 2019 for a short course in Integrated Pest Management and Food Safety at the Wageningen University and Research, Netherlands.  Akpe Eddy-Doh is a good team player and collaborates with researchers in OPRI, other institutes and the Universities to carry out wholistic research on pests and beneficial organisms. She looks forward to many more years of research and collaborations to boost food safety in a safe environment.
