CROP PROTECTION

The main aim of the Crop Protection Division is to develop environmentally friendly novel techniques and technologies for sustainable oil palm and coconut pest and diseases management and also research into beneficial organisms associated of oil palm and coconut.

The Crop Protection Division comprises of Entomology and Plant Pathology units. The division is responsible for the development of integrated control strategies for the sustainable management of insect pests and diseases associated with oil palm and coconut trees. Additionally, the division research into the identification of insects and pathogens associated with oil palm and coconut trees using morphological and molecular techniques, and conservation of beneficial organisms associated with these trees. The division also provides consultancy and extension services in pests and disease control to government and private oil palm and coconut growers. The division currently has a staff strength of 12 members comprising of six Research Officers, five Research Assistants, and one laborer.
The objective of the division is to research into ways of protecting oil palm and coconut from pest and diseases and develop novel technologies for sustainable management of pest and diseases of oil palm and coconut.
