Mr. Bashiru Adams is an Early Career Researcher (Entomologist) with expertise in development of IPM strategies, exploring and also conservation of beneficial insects. He holds an MPhil in Crop Protection (Entomology) and a BSc. in Agriculture Science with a specialization in Crop Science all from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana.
He served as a teaching and a research assistant at the Department of Crop and Soil Science of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology during his national service program in 2013. Also, he was a Graduate Assistant in the same department during the final year of his master’s degree for the 2016/2017 academic year. After his master’s degree he worked briefly with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Ghana at Ejisu in the Ashanti region. During this period he assisted in educating farmers on the safe use and handling of agrochemicals and on sustainable pest’s management. He has also worked as a Team Member on the Root and Tuber Improvement and Marketing Program (RTIMP) of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) in 2014 to assess the impact of the biological control of Cassava Green Mite (CGM), Mononychellus tanajoa with the natural enemy Typhlodromalus manihoti.
Mr. Bashiru Adams joined the CSIR- Oil Palm Research Institute in 2018 as a Principal Technologist (Entomologist). Over the years, he has worked and contributed in providing consultancy services to various companies, estates and farmers in the oil palm value chain on sustainable oil palm production and pest’s management.
Mr. Bashiru Adams is currently the principal investigator for the project that aims to study the impact of chemical fertilizer on the occurrence and population dynamics of the oil palm leaf miner Coelaenomenodera lameensis, Berti and Mariau (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) and diversity of its associated natural enemies (Predators and Parasitoids). He is again the principal investigator for the project with a focus on studying the population dynamics of oil palm, Elaeis guineensis Jacq pollinators and their relationship to fruit set and yield in Ghana.
Mr. Bashiru Adams has authored two journal publications in very reputable high impact International journals.
Mr. Bashiru Adams served as a Senator for the Department of Crop and Soil Science of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology at the Graduate School in 2015/2016 Academic year. Also, he was a Welfare community member at the Graduate School of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology during the 2016/2017 academic year.
He is currently a member of the Quality Assurance Committee of the CSIR- Oil Palm Research Institute. He is married with two children.
